Otoplasty – Ear Pinning

The corrective surgery for protruding ears

General:

Otoplasty (ear pinning) can be performed on patients from the age of 6 years either under local anaesthetic, or, if desired, with general anaesthetic. The procedure takes 20 minutes per side.

Technique:

The ear pinning involves a small incision at the back of the ear. The protruding cartilage is removed and by skilful sculpting of the cartilage the outer ear reshaped. After discreet removal of surplus cartilage and skin, the wound is cosmetically sealed.

Post-operative care:

After eight days dressings and stitches are removed. It is recommended that the patient wear an elastic headband at night for four weeks after surgery to ensure that the ear is held in shape during healing.
